Leo An

Born in Seoul (South Korea) in 1978, Leo An obtained a diploma in voice at the National Arts Academy in Seoul and at the conservatory «Giuseppe Verdi» in Milan.

 

In 2000 he won the first prize at the 40th International Competition «Voci Verdiane» in Busseto and the third prize at the 37th«Francisco Viñas» Contest in Barcelona. Two years after he won the third prize at the «Belvedere Competition» in Vienna.

 

In 2000 he debuted as Giorgio Germont in La Traviata at Teatro Pala in Busseto. Since then he has sung Guglielmo in Guglielmo Tell by Rossini for As.LiCo. in Milan, Ping in Turandot at the Royal Opera House in Muscat (Oman), the title role in Rigoletto and Riccardo in Ballo in Maschera at Teatro Comunale in Florence, Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore at Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Teatro delle Muse Ancona, Teatro Coccia Novara, San Gimignano Festival and in Vanemunie Theatre (Estonia); Germont in La Traviata in Pisa, Lucca, Livorno, Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Sassari, Mantova and in Korea; Rigoletto at San Gimignano Festival, Alidoro in Cenerentola in Pisa, Lucca and Livorno; Gerard in Andrea Chénier in Bergamo, Cremona, Pavia, Como and Luglio Musicale Trapanese; Valentine in Faust, and Carmina Burana in Novara, Marchese in Lauriana by A. Machado at Teatro Sao Carlos Lisbon, Nabucco in Nabucco at the Washington Opera House, at the Teatro Lirico Cagliari and in Vercelli, Scarpia in Tosca at Teatro Verdi in Sassari, Lescaut in Manon Lascaut at Teatro Lirico Cagliari, Pagano in I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata at Teatro San Carlo Naples and Gerard in Andrea Chénier in Cagliari, title role in Rigoletto in Como, Seoul, Pisa and Catania, Ezio in Attila at the Teatro Filarmonico Verona and the debut as Falstaff in Falstaff at the Seoul National Opera.

 

Among his future engagements: Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Deaugu Opera House, Ezio in Attila at the Sankt Gallen Theatre, the title role in Rigoletto at the Slowakian National Theatre in Bratislava, at Massa Marittima, Pescara and Ascoli Piceno summer festivals, Tonio in Pagliacci at the Teatro Lirico Cagliari.
