Gianmaria Fantato Pontini
Conductor
Born in Padua on April 12, 1999, Gianmaria Fantato Pontini studied orchestral conducting with Aurelio Canonici, Toby Purser, and Lior Shambadal, and choral conducting with Marco Berrini. He is also an accomplished organist, performing as a soloist, accompanist, and in chamber ensembles.
He is the founder and principal conductor of the Orchestra “Il Cimento Armonico” in Padua, where he promotes symphonic and sacred repertoire. In 2021, he was artistic director of the festival “Venezia 1600.” He made his conducting debut in 2022 with Fantasia di Divina Commedia and has since led concerts featuring works from Bach to Elgar, including Fauré’s Requiem and premieres like Virginio Zoccatelli’s Suite di Natale.
Fantato Pontini took part in a masterclass with conductor Daniel Oren, has collaborated with notable musicians, and competed in the Lake Como Conducting Competition. He has also published arrangements and editions of works by Fauré and Wolfango Dalla Vecchia.
In 2023, he was selected for the Vienna Opera Academy, debuting with scenes from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and made his international debut with the Berlin Sinfonietta and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, receiving several international awards. In 2025, he conducted Verdi’s La Traviata at the Vienna Opera Festival.
He currently serves as Music and Artistic Director of “Il Cimento Armonico APS” and as Associate Conductor of the Orchestra Goldoni di Livorno.
